Cleantech Venture Capital: How to make sense of rapidly changing valuations and the new investor landscape

For two years, the cleantech investment landscape has undergone a transformation. In the last five years, cleantech venture and growth capital investment in Europe has increased four-fold; average later stage venture rounds have risen three-fold with an average deal size of $58 million; and exit numbers have doubled in the past two years. This all sounds good, but how should we make sense of a complex landscape with rising valuations, new types of capital allocators, improved access to public markets and heightened global interest in ESG. Improving Accuracy in Carbon Accounting

The emissions and risk monitoring ecosystem emerged to provide easy and transparent accounting tools to those bound by mandatory disclosures and net-zero commitments. However, for a market based on providing transparency and trust there are inaccuracies and challenges across the board, including poor data inputs; regional and outdated emissions coefficients and problems when comparing corporate carbon footprints. But when is perfect is the enemy of good? This panel style session will provide insight into to the direction of travel for the GHG emissions accounting ecosystem and the risks of inaccurate reporting for organizations and their investors, hearing from key innovators tacking these issues and those regulating for mandatory disclosures.

Finance & the Circular Economy: The Road to Net Zero

Finance is widely recognised as an essential enabler of reaching climate goals. Venture capital plays an important role in funding and developing sustainable innovations, but what about scaling adoption? Alternative ownership models like ‘X as a Service’ are proving crucial to decarbonising and enabling the rapid adoption of greener products and services. Central to this shift is the circular economy, which provides clearer oversight of supply chains and the full asset lifecycle. This session explores the impact of alternative ownership models across key sectors and asks how can we scale our climate ambition? Co-hosted by: BNP Paribas
