The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a rethinking of urban design and transport, while recovery and stimulus measures put in place by governments represent an opportunity to turn such discussions into action by building back better for a green recovery. Cities are engines of growth and home to more than half of OECD citizens, but are often characterised by unhealthy levels of pollution. Mobility of people and transport of goods have contributed to prosperity, poverty reduction and stability but will account for a quarter of energy-related greenhouse gas emissions.
